Individual Contracts (Cotutelles)
Individual Contracts govern the cooperation between two institutions and the particular student. Masaryk University divides this cooperation to:
- Jointly Supervised Studies (also called cotutelle), where the Cooperation Agreement compromises joint academic supervision at the doctorate level, governing the responsibilities of the collaborating institutions with regard to thesis evaluation and defence
- European Doctorate, where upon fulfilment of conditions laid down by the European University Associations a title Doctor Europaeus is awarded.
Accreditation
Cooperation based on a signed Individual Contract takes place under the terms of accredited degree programmes running at one of the MU Faculties and at the cooperating institution.

Student enrolment
An MU student as well as a student primarily enrolled to a cooperating institution other than MU can realize his/her studies at MU within the Individual Contracts.
Admission procedure
The admissions procedure for enrolment, with all its terms and conditions, must be approved by all cooperating institutions and duly addressed in the Cooperation Agreement.
Should the student, as per Individual Contract, be awarded an academic degree and issued an MU diploma, s/he must be duly enrolled to a degree programme accredited at an MU Faculty as per § 48 to 50 of the HEA and MU Statute, whereto, as per § 49 part 3 of the HEA, the Dean may stipulate exceptional conditions for the admissions procedure.
In case of Jointly Supervised Studies, where the student has enrolled and is listed primarily at a non-MU institution, then, as per § 49 parts 3 and 4 of the HEA, the Dean may waive the student entrance examination part of the MU admissions procedure.
Where MU does not, under Individual Contract, award the academic degree or issue the diploma, the MU admissions procedure does not apply.
Certification of prior education
To be enrolled to an accredited degree programme at an MU Faculty, based on an Individual Contract, it is a requirement that candidates provide certification that their prior highest university or school education level attained abroad is duly recognized. MU will not require certification of prior university education abroad, from a student primarily enrolled at a non-MU institution, where the Cooperation Agreement states that the cooperating institution warrants their prior education level.
Tution fees
In the Cooperation Agreement on an Individual Contract it is stipulated who, and optionally from what resources, will pay the course fees in cases where the student will enrol on an MU degree course accredited in a foreign language (pursuant to § 58 part 5 of the HEA), or in cases where studies at the cooperating institution are fee-based.

Records in the MU IS
Information on MU cooperation with institutions abroad is recorded in the MU IS.
When it comes to Individual Contracts, the records include the Cooperation Agreement reached. Other information relates to the contract type (European Doctorate, Jointly Supervised Studies), the cooperating institutions, the academic degrees awarded, the course completion documents issued, etc.
Student records
Data about individual students, whose studies are being conducted in cooperation with institutions abroad, and their academic records are archived in the MU IS. The interchange of data between cooperating institutions is duly covered by the Cooperation Agreement.
Students whose studies are conducted in cooperation with institutions abroad based on an Individual Contract, in cases where MU is to issue the degree certifications, are logged in the MU IS as enrolled on MU accredited degree programmes. Within the system, their records contain all the standard information typically entered. Academic records kept, include complete records of the progress of study at MU and all other cooperating institutions, where the relevant parties spend some part of their studies, and also archived copies of every final thesis.
In cases where certificates are issued by the cooperating institution, the students are logged in the MU IS under the Comprehensive Studies programme and the Multidisciplinary Studies specialty, or into a standard MU accredited programme, altogether with their personal details and complete academic record at MU.
